(Transcript) Steve Foreshew-Cain: Hello. It’s been another big week this week at Co-op Digital.
We welcomed three members of our Group Exec into the Digital team this week. Our Group CEO Steve, our Group Deputy CEO Pippa and Rod who’s leading the work on developing our new strategy which has digital at its heart.
We were very fortunate that Steve and Rod were very gracious with their time and gave us two hours at our all team event this week where they took questions on what they think the future of digital is here at the Co-op. They talked about a momentum that is building as we look into Renew.
We also welcomed Pippa to The Federation where she met with some of the teams that are working very hard on Co-op Digital products and services. She took a tour of our new co-working space which we’ve opened here at The Federation, taking time to make her mark on the on the table on that floor.
And of course it wouldn’t be a Friday video without mentioning some of our new joiners in the Co-op Digital team. So a big welcome to Gillian MacDonald who joins our user research community to Eliza Tyrrell and Chris Winkley who are joining our agile business analyst community and to Rachel Murray who is joining our content design community.
And the other big news of the week on a slightly sadder note is that we’re going to be saying goodbye to our friend Mike Bracken. Mike leaves an incredible legacy here at the Co-op, he has literally attracted hundreds of people to come and join the Co-op as it embarks on its digital transformation journey.
We’ve had a number of successes over the years already not the least of them is this building that I sit in today.
So, whilst it’s with sadness, a message to Mike. We’ve got this.
Chief Operating Officer – Digital
Hello! Week 8 update from Co-op Digital.
First thing to say is thank you to Richard Pennycook who stepped down as CEO this week. It was Richard who helped bring many of us into the Co-op and really supported our move into all things digital. Well done to him and we hope we do you proud.
Into his footsteps comes Steve Murrells. He’s now the CEO and he’s already given a great degree of support to us and our digital teams. Should also mention that stepping up as interim CEO of the Food Business is Jo Whitfield who’s been the digital leader in Food. That’s great.
On that note, one of the big things this week is the work that we’ve done with food colleagues. We’ve had many, many store managers in place and if you can count the ambition by the number of post-it notes we had over 2000 requests on post-it notes written down for what people want to see in our future stores. Over 420 drawings of that so it all looks good for bringing food and digital together.
Other big thing this week, we spent a whole day with our Leader Showcase, bringing in groups of leaders into Federation where I’m standing now, showing them all the digital work getting them engaged. We’ve got a really good level of ambition and engagement from them and it bodes very well for the future. And it’s great to see that ambition. To meet that ambition, we’re going to need new people, new skills*. This week I’m delighted to welcome 3 new joiners to Co-op Digital. Rob Wadsworth and James Bleasby join us as delivery managers and Mike Ingham has joined us as a product manager on Membership. Welcome to them and have a great week.

Co-op Electrical sells, as you’d expect, electrical goods online. From fridges and washing machines to iPads and TVs. It’s a great business with a turnover of £100M and a Feefo rating of 98%. That rating stems from a real co-operative sense of customer service – discounts for members and free delivery for everyone with slots by the hour.
Co-op Electrical competes in a tough market with the likes of AO.com, John Lewis and Currys. The team work hard to deliver not only great customer service but consistently offer lower prices than competitors along with warranties at a cost price.
Currently Electrical sits within Co-op Food, but as it’s an on-line business it makes sense to run it from CoopDigital. Today we’re announcing that James and his team will move over to Digital and work under Mike.
James and the team have an ambitious plan to grow the business. We’ll help to speed that up, making Electrical a truly digital business – not just an online one. We’ll invest in service design, agile delivery and focus relentlessly on the needs of our customers and members.
